Product Definition and Selection
Limited Capacity seats available

“Product Definition and Selection: Life and Death Decisions for Your Business.”

Most start-up entrepreneurs, and mature companies for that matter, have significantly more ideas than they can execute on. Since resources are almost always in short supply, it is critical that you properly define the products that you launch into development, and that you very judiciously select which products to launch. The consequences of not performing this well include limited success or even failure of the company.

Jon will provide an overview of considerations for developing robust product definitions,
analyzing your target markets, and selecting the best products to launch.

Attend this powerful presentation to learn techniques for defining and selecting the products that will get you to the point of winning funding or earning revenue as quickly as possible.

Not Your Typical Software Engineer Panel
Limited Capacity seats available

The Not Your Typical Software Panel is one of a few events centered around diversity. The idea is to have each panelist talk about his/her personal experiences in becoming successful in a not so diverse sector (Present, Past, Future). It's an open forum to share each panelist's story, whether on how it's been difficult or more challenging for him/her, how it wasn't any different for him/her and/or what and how he/she overcame those obstacles to be successful despite those challenges.  After each developer shares his/her insights, and answers a few questions directed from the moderator, we will open the floor for questions from the audience.

Behavior is the key to connecting and success
Limited Capacity seats available

Have you ever asked yourself or thought:

  • Hmmm, that was abrupt, why did I get that reaction?

  • Wow, they sure like to talk rather than get down to business.

  • Can’t everyone just get along?

  • If I had the time to review the material, I would be in a position to make the decision.

  • Let’s just have a little fun with this first.

  • Why do we need to change that?

  • Get to the point!

It is interesting to watch the behavior and attitudes of others; and maybe even jump to some conclusions without all the facts. It is especially interesting to look at our own behavior and attitude, and understand how we behave; and recognize it can be a game changer when interacting with others. More importantly, we have a choice on how that interaction can be more effective and result in a Win-Win for all! Join us for this fun, interactive, and entertaining presentation. Walk-away with tips you can implement immediately!

1 Million Cups
Limited Capacity seats available

1 Million Cups is a free, weekly national program designed to educate, engage, and connect entrepreneurs. Developed by the Kauffman Foundation, 1MC is based on the notion that entrepreneurs discover solutions and network over a million cups of coffee.

Every Wednesday morning, one or two early-stage startups present their companies to a diverse audience of their peers, mentors, educators, and advisors.

Each founder presents for six minutes, followed by a 20-minute question-and-answer session with the audience.

The culture surrounding 1 Million Cups is that of a supportive, neutral space welcoming entrepreneurs to be open and honest about their businesses and the challenges they face.

Youth Art Night
Limited Capacity seats available

Bring the kids to Studio 101 for hands-on, fine arts fun and a gallery opening of student work.  Each visitor will have the opportunity to help create a mandala mosaic that will become a permanent public art piece, displayed outside of the studio.  Students in the Studio Graduates program will display their artwork and assist younger artists in creating an art piece to keep. There will also be a showcase of works from local high-school artist, Derek Russell.  In Russell's highly detailed drawings, recognizable objects are combined in unexpected ways.  Deep darks contrast delicate line work.  According to Russell, viewers are meant to uncover a narrative within each piece.  In Russell's words, "I create work that asks what or why."

It'll be beautiful, a little messy, and a lot of fun!

Colorado Springs Young Professionals Social
CSYP is Colorado's largest young professionals group and the oldest on the Front Range. We're also the only networking group in Colorado Springs with strong ties to similar groups in Denver, Pueblo, as well as coast to coast and even Internationally. Some say they are connected, we really are. Here are some facts:

-Over 5 years old
-It started on 2 weeks notice with 44 people in the back room of Johnny's
-Almost 2000 members in COS alone
-We've featured over 50 non profits at our events
-This year is our 5th Annual Charity Toy Drive for Christmas Unlimited
-We did our 4th Annual Charity Event at the Zoo in August
-Gathered School Supplies for Emerson-Edison for our 4th year
-We've worked with the Economic Development Corporation, Downtown Partnership, and The Chamber
-We've helped build a Habitat for Humanity Home
-We've gone Riverboarding, Skiing, Hiking, and Mountain Biking
-Co Sponsored numerous wine tastings, special events, and even a fashion show....often getting special discounts for our members.
-We have two soccer teams, two softball teams, and two volleyball teams
-Our "Green Project" Magazine reuse program is a ground breaking program throughout Colorado.
-There have been special CSYP only events at Citywalk Luxury Lofts (Penthouse), Audi of Colorado Springs, Porsche of Colorado Springs, and Zerbe's Jewlers.

People have found jobs, made friends, and found other reasons to stay in Colorado Springs solely because of what we've done. And to be honest, a lot of it is because we do attract the best of the best of Colorado Springs 20/30 something professionals.

COPPeR Business and Arts Luncheon
The Colorado Springs Regional Business Alliance and the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region (COPPeR) are pleased to present the Business & Arts Lunch annually each October.

Our organizations understand that a thriving and innovative business community succeeds only through the presence of an equally robust arts and cultural community. This luncheon honors businesses that are involved in the arts through philanthropy, leadership, and the integration of creativity into the workplace. Congratulations to this year’s 9 finalists, an eclectic array of inspiring role models across sectors!

The Lunch is one of the most colorful events of the year, featuring live performances on multiple stages, local art for sale, delicious food and drink, and multiple awards for leadership at the intersections of business and creativity. Our thanks to the visual artist featured on the promotional materials for this year’s event, Tracy Miller.

Social Enterprise Panel
Limited Capacity seats available

Social enterprises are businesses whose primary purpose is the common good. They use the methods and disciplines of business and the power of the marketplace to advance their social, environmental and human justice agendas.

Three characteristics distinguish a social enterprise from other types of businesses, nonprofits and government agencies:

  • It directly addresses an intractable social need and serves the common good, either through its products and services or through the number of disadvantaged people it employs.

  • Its commercial activity is a strong revenue driver, whether a significant earned income stream within a nonprofit’s mixed revenue portfolio, or a for profit enterprise.

  • The common good is its primary purpose, literally “baked into” the organization’s DNA, and trumping all others.
